Then, the cartilage and skin will be reshaped until the desired results are achieved. If the patient wishes, the cartilage can be trimmed to reshape the ear. The ear will then be pinned back with permanent sutures, securing the cartilage. Because the incisions take place behind the ears, patients experience virtually no scarring.

The surgery typically one to two hours (for 2 ears), and patients experience little discomfort. After the surgery, soft dressings should be applied to the ears for a few days. There can be mild discomfort during this time.
