Laser Hair Removal

in Baltimore, MD

Our registered nurses provide laser hair removal to patients in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Annapolis and the surrounding areas of Maryland. Many people have unwanted hair on their face and body. Are you tired of spending your time and money on waxing and shaving away excess hair? If so, laser hair removal is a remarkable way to rid your body of unwanted hair for good.

What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal uses targeted laser energy to heat and destroy the hair follicle, preventing future hair growth. This offers a permanent solution to hair removal, instead of needing to undergo repeated waxing, plucking, or shaving. Laser hair removal can be used anywhere that hair grows but is most often used for the bikini line, legs, arms, underarms, face, and back.

Benefits of Laser Hair Removal

One of the major benefits of laser hair removal is its permanent results. Laser hair removal can benefit those who are tired of painful waxing, plucking, and shaving and would like to permanently remove or reduce unwanted hair growth.

Who is a Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal can be used on all skin types and tones, however, certain patients will have more success than others. Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment in the hair follicle. Therefore, those with darker hair can expect more success. Those with lighter skin may also find quicker results because the hair follicle can be more easily detected against the skin. Those with darker skin tones or lighter hair can still find success with laser hair removal, it may just require a few more treatment sessions.

How is Laser Hair Removal Performed?

At the office of Dr. Papel, Dr. Kontis, & Dr. Brown, we use the DEKA Motus AY® and Candela GentleMax Pro® systems for hair removal. During this process, a hand-held laser is passed over the target area to damage hair follicles with intense heat that inhibits future hair growth. For complete success, multiple treatments are usually required. Topical anesthesia may be used on small treatment areas to make the treatment more comfortable.

The length of the procedure depends on the area being targeted. A small area can be treated in minutes and a large area will take longer. In addition, dark hair responds best to laser hair removal compared to fair hair. All skin types and colors are treatable. Once the series of treatments is complete, patients are free from the maintenance and side effects that come with unwanted hair.

Recovery and Results of Laser Hair Removal

You will notice finer, thinner hair after only a single treatment. This hair will continue to grow in finer and thinner after each subsequent treatment until finally there are no more hairs being produced. Final results may take several weeks or several months, depending on the thickness of your hair and the area of the face or body you are treating.

After each treatment session, the skin will appear red and you may have some swelling and stinging similar to a sunburn. It is important to keep the treated area out of direct sunlight until completely healed.
