OTOPLASTY (SURGERY OF THE EARS)
Surgery to correct prominent or distorted ears is called otoplasty. Children with even a mild deformity are usually victims of cruel teasing by classmates, often leading to decreased self-esteem and poor self-image. Otoplasty can be performed once the ears are fully developed, usually around five years of age.
Adults may also benefit from otoplasty, which
is often performed in conjunction with other facial plastic surgery
procedures. Not only is it possible to "pin back" the
ears, but ears can also be reshaped or reduced in size.
