In practice since 1987, Dr.
Ira D. Papel is board-certified in both Facial Plastic Surgery and Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. These disciplines combine the functional and esthetic concerns of the face, head, and neck into one integrated practice with expertise in facial plastic surgery as well as primary and revision rhinoplasty.
Dr. Papel has received his training at internationally recognized institutions. He received his B.A. from The Johns Hopkins University, and earned his M.D. from Boston University School of Medicine. This was followed by a residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. A fellowship in Facial Plastic Surgery was then completed at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).
As an associate professor at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Papel is actively involved in surgical training of medical students, residents and fellows. He also serves as co-director of the Facial Plastic Fellowship at Johns Hopkins, in addition to being invited to serve as a Visiting Professor at more than 27 universities in the United States, Europe, South America and Asia. he is the immediate past President of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery for 2005-2006. Dr. Papel has also written and published over 100 publications and chapters on Facial Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Papel believes that advances in medical practice and academic excellence should be combined for the optimum patient care.
