FACIAL RECONSTRUCTION
Ear Lobe Repair
If your ear lobes have enlarged earring holes or have torn completely through, its time for ear lobe repair. This simple procedure is performed in the minor procedure room under a local anesthetic in 30-45 minutes. After 4-6 weeks of healing, you can get your ears re-pierced and resume wearing your favorite earrings!
Occasionally, ear lobes are too large. Ear lobe reduction is also a simple procedure that can be performed alone or in conjunction with another facial plastic procedure.
Scar Revision
If you suffered a facial injury in the past and have an unsightly scar, you may be a candidate for scar revision. Scar revision is useful to reduce the appearance of wide, raised, or highly visible scars. Using special techniques, our facial plastic surgeons can reorient scars in natural creases of the face, thereby making the scar less noticeable.
Other options include dermabrasion or laser resurfacing. If you have scars from cystic acne, a deep chemical peel may be the answer you're looking for!
Skin Cancer Treatment and Mohs Reconstruction
Skin cancer poses the greatest risk to people who have fair features (blue eyes, light skin, blonde hair), a genetic predisposition toward skin cancers, or who have large numbers of moles. In the case of a potentially dangerous skin growth or suspicious mole, physicians take a skin sample and send it for microscopic examination. If cancer cells are detected, your surgeon may use any number of treatments to remove it. The method used is dependent on the size of the growth and the type of cancer cells detected. Usually, facial skin cancers are simply excised and repaired with minor surgery. Others can be treated using topcial anticancer therapy.
If the skin cancer is located in a specialized area like the nose or the corner of the eye, Mohs surgery may be required to spare as much normal skin as possible. Mohs surgery is a very effective way to remove skin cancers and reduce the chances that they will return. It is usually performed by a dermatologic surgeon. Mohs defects can then be reconstructed by a facial plastic surgeon to insure your scar will be inconspicuous and your facial features intact. Obviously, if the cancer has spread throughout the body, more major surgery is required.
Facial Lacerations and Fractures
After a facial injury, facial plastic surgery can help restore function and can help recreate a normal appearance. Injuries can include abrasions, lacerations, avulsions, or facial fractures. A number of different techniques exist, and which one is used depends on the severity and location of the facial injury. If you or a loved one has been injured, our surgeons can advise you with the latest information about facial trauma treatment and answer your questions. If you are brought to an emergency room, insist on being evaluated by one of our facial plastic surgeons. With our experience in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, we will help restore your normal facial function and appearance.
Microtia Repair
Microtia is a birth deformity in which an infant is born with a severe ear deformity or complete absence of ears. Microtia can affect one or both ears, and hearing may also be affected. Fortunately, the problem can be improved through reconstructive surgery. Surgery for microtia is a very delicate procedure that requires detailed knowledge of both facial plastic surgery and otolaryngology. The surgeons at the Facial Plastic Surgicenter have significant experience in microtia repair. If your child was born with this condition, microtia repair can help him or her achieve a more normal appearance, thereby restoring confidence and improving your child's quality of life.
Cleft Lip and Palate Repair
Cleft lip occurs when the two sides of an infant's upper lip do not fully meet, and cleft palate occurs when the two sides of the roof of the mouth do not meet. Fortunately, both of these congenital conditions can be successfully corrected with surgery. Cleft lip and palate surgery is delicate surgery requiring a highly qualified facial plastic surgeon experienced in repair of congenital deformities. Our knowledge and experience will insure the best result for your child. If your child was born with either (or both) of these conditions, cleft repair can help him or her achieve a more normal appearance, improve speech development, and greatly improve your child's quality of life.
