What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to get rid of damaged layers. While normally performed on the face, chemical peels can actually be used anywhere on the body to exfoliate skin and enhance the complexion. There are three basic types of peels:

  • Light peel, which treats only the top layer of skin (epidermis)
  • Medium peel, which treats the epidermis and part of the dermis or middle layer of skin
  • Deep peel, treats the epidermis and deeper layers of the dermis

Benefits of a Chemical Peel

The numerous benefits of chemical peels include:

  • Highly customizable, allowing our aestheticians to select the procedure that best meets your needs
  • Provides immediate, long-lasting results
  • Treats a number of skin conditions, including fine lines and wrinkles, acne, scarring and discoloration
  • Can be performed in our office in under an hour

Who is a Good Candidate for a Chemical Peel?

Anyone who would like to improve their appearance can benefit from a chemical peel, especially those who would like to reduce signs of aging yet are not ready or willing to undergo surgery. Patients who want to brighten their skin and reduce signs of aging can use chemexfoliation or chemical peels. Chemical peels could be the perfect choice for the results you crave. Chemical peels are a great solution for those with fine lines, moderate to severe wrinkles, pigment irregularities or acne scarring. With this procedure, your skin will be resurfaced to brighten your complexion and reduce signs of aging.

How is a Chemical Peel Performed?

There are many different kinds of chemical peels. The general process for all procedure types begins with the safe removal of the upper layers of your skin with the use of various exfoliants. In approximately one week, the growth of new skin will be complete and in about six weeks you will be able to enjoy the final results. By this time, the new collagen has formed, creating firm and toned skin.

Results of a Chemical Peel

There may be some redness and swelling present, particularly after a medium or deep peel. Your results will become noticeable once these side effects have subsided. That may take between two and eight weeks depending on the type of peel used and the overall condition of your skin. Results are visible immediately after a light peel, as there is virtually no recovery time required.

After receiving a chemical peel at the office of Drs. Papel, Kontis, & Brown, patients are amazed by the brightness, firmness and youthful glow that their skin now possesses.
