Arm Lift

in Baltimore, MD

Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Emile Brown offers a variety of arm lift options to patients in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Annapolis and the surrounding areas of Maryland. The arms are one area that can be difficult to tone, whether it’s due to loose skin or stubborn fat. When diet and exercise fail to show results, an arm lift procedure may be able to help.

What is an Arm Lift?

Many people are bothered by loose skin that hangs from the upper arm when fully extended, sometimes called “bat wings.” An arm lift, also referred to as a brachioplasty, addresses this problem by reducing sagging skin and sculpting the upper arm to give it a more defined appearance. During an arm lift, excess fat may be extracted from the area as well to help patients achieve tightened, toned upper arms.

Benefits of an Arm Lift

Following an arm lift, you may notice that you are no longer bothered by jiggling skin whenever you move your arms. You also won’t have to hide your arms underneath long sleeves in the summertime. Instead, you will feel more like breaking out those tank tops and sleeveless shirts because you’ll have arms that you are proud to show off. An arm lift can provide you with the exact sculpting you desire. Our male patients often desire more definition than our female clients, who may prefer a “tightened and toned” look instead. During your consultation, we will discuss your goals to ensure you achieve the type of results you desire.

Who is a Good Candidate for an Arm Lift?

After losing a great deal of weight, many of our Annapolis and Baltimore area patients find they have far too much extra skin on the upper arms. These individuals often turn to brachioplasty to help them reduce this excess skin. Even those who have lost only minimal amounts of weight could benefit if their exercise program has not produced the type of results they had hoped for. The arm lift can help patients finally remove that last bit of stubborn fat and excess skin.

How is an Arm Lift Performed?

During surgery, an incision will be made along a hidden area on the inside of your arm. Some patients may only require a small incision hidden in the underarm. This incision allows your surgeon to extract excess skin and fat in order to create more pleasing contours. At the same time, liposuction techniques may be used to remove stubborn fat in the area.

Recovery After an Arm Lift

After an arm lift, the incisions will be covered and placed in compression wraps. Patients may experience swelling and discomfort in the area for 1-2 weeks and should take this time off work to properly recover. For 3-4 weeks, patients should avoid lifting the arm above the shoulders. Exercise can be gradually introduced, but more strenuous activity should wait for about 6 weeks. Once the swelling has diminished over the next few months, patients can enjoy their newly contoured upper arms.
