What is Botox®?

Botox®, also called botulinum toxin type A, is an injectable used for cosmetic purposes. In less than 15 minutes per procedure, Botox® from Dr. Papel, Dr. Kontis, and Dr. Brown can provide an amazing solution to those deep lines that can form between your brows, in addition to being a potent antidote to fine lines and wrinkles that form on your face as a natural consequence of aging. By temporarily paralyzing the wrinkle-causing muscles of your face, it gives your complexion a much smoother and younger-looking appearance. Botox® has also been used to treat migraines, overactive bladder and a variety of other medically indicated conditions.

Who is a Good Candidate for Botox®?

Botox® might be a good choice if you want to restore your youthful appearance by getting rid of pesky fine lines and wrinkles and temporarily replacing that wrinkly skin with softer, smoother-looking skin that has a more youthful glow. Botox® can help you reduce or prevent wrinkles, such as those on the forehead. Many of our patients delight in the fact that Botox® is a nonsurgical option for beautiful skin that requires zero downtime. Furthermore, Botox® is an excellent alternative treatment method for controlling migraines or even decreasing the production of excessive underarm sweat.

How is Botox® Treatment Performed?

Sometimes, Botox® is injected after a local anesthetic has been used on the area of intended treatment. However, some patients don’t find the procedure uncomfortable enough to warrant anesthesia. Dr. Papel, Dr. Kontis, and Dr. Brown utilize a very fine needle to inject Botox® into your facial muscles. The number of injections that are administered depends on the number and severity of wrinkles and fine lines. In most cases, the effects of this in-office treatment last for three to four months. After this period, patients usually come back for additional treatments.

Results of Botox®

After your Botox® treatment, avoid exercising vigorously or rubbing your face roughly. Placing an ice pack on your face or taking an over-the-counter medication will help to reduce discomfort and swelling following your treatment. It’s also recommended to sleep on your back.

Your results from your Botox® injections will typically last three to four months, and many of our patients enjoy the option of establishing a regular injection schedule to ensure that their skin is consistently smooth and youthful.
